Hey Jshakour,
I found a quick fix for the protection problems I was having. I'd love for you to take a look at the program and give any opinions/advice you have. PM me your email address, and I'll send it to you. I appreciate any help you'd be willing to offer.
Cheers
Dave
The Worksheet Passwords are all - wyldeside
Thank you very much! This project represents several months worth of loafing off at work!
I appreciate the offer of help also. After spending so much time on this project, I really need some sort of helping hand (even if its just in the form of constructive criticism) to get the motivation to finish it off. If you see something thats buggy, please let me know. If you think something could be better, or the program needs something more, feel free to chime in. The protected workbook you have is just for bug checking. I'm working out all the bugs on a different worksheet, without any protections. If you'd like that one also, let me know. I'd be happy to send it to you.
I found, and fixed, one bug. The Efficiency Calculator on the main page, had a Protection bug that I've worked out. Let me know if you find any others.
Cheers
Dave

The Homebrew Alchemist
Hey Folks,
For the past few months, I've been working on a project for the Brewer's Roundtable. The idea was to create a brewing 'software' which could be distributed freely to all Brewer's Roundtable members. I chose to use Microsoft Excel because of its popularity.
I focused mainly on beginning All Grainers (<- that CANNOT be a real word), because starting on the path to All Grain, while VERY rewarding, is somewhat technically challenging. I'm hoping that this program will do for others what Beersmith did for me, when I first started brewing. Extract brewers need not worry, though, as the program works with extracts also.
I need a few folks to give the program a test run. The program is not completed yet, but I'm at the point now where I need to bug test it. Also, I created this program on my work computer, which runs Office '97. I'm not sure how well this program will run with newer MS Office software.
I only need a couple experienced folks to test it out and notify me of any bugs and/or suggestions. So, how about it Jeepguy? Stihler? Heavenlyfire?
Once the kinks are all worked out, and the program is completed, I figured maybe Matt would set up a 'Members Only' download for it on the Roundtable. Maybe it would help increase the traffic here. What do you think Matt?
If any of you folks are interested, email or PM me with your email address, and I'll send the program to you for inspection. If you find any bugs, or just have any suggestions, you can post them here.
Cheers
Dave

Hey Brian,
I'll send the file to you in a day or so. Please let me know what you think.
Shineman,
I'm no computer whiz by any means. Answer these questions, and maybe we can narrow down the problem:
1. What version of Microsoft Office are you running?
2. Are you receiving any error messages when you try opening the file?
Cheers

Re: The Homebrew Alchemist
OK. I now have access to MS Office 2003, and I have run across a few problems. Excel 97 allows a few exceptions to the protection rules that Excel 2003 doesn't. So, it looks like a few more weeks of writing VBA code before I can do any more bug checking. Brian, I'll let you know as soon as I have this worked out, and I'll email it to you at that time.
Shineman, I'd still like to know what kind of problems you are having, as I'm sure that the program BASICALLY works in Excel 2003. Please let me know.
Cheers

Re: The Homebrew Alchemist
Jshakour,
Thanks for asking!
It's progressing very slowly right now. I've havent received very much input regarding the program. I dont think anyone has actually used it for anything other than bug checking. I found and corrected a few bugs, and will be zipping the file and sending it to Matt soon. Once it gets circulated, I'm sure I'll have more folks chime in with ideas.
Look for the Homebrew Alchemist version 1 to be posted to this forum soon!
Cheers
