Refractometer

Postby curlyfat » Fri Jan 01, 2010 5:49 am

I got a refractometer for christmas (YAY!). My main interest in it is during sparge to know where the runoff gravity is at with a tiny sample. Somehow they figured to get me the temperature-adjusting one..

I was wondering, though, during fermentation does the alcohol throw the readings off? I'm sure I read this somewhere, but don't recall where. It would be great to keep an eye on all stages of beer/wine with only a couple of drops. Any experience/knowledge about this out there?

I'm not an expert on this and don't even own a refractometer, but this link looks pretty informative. Good luck!

That's exactly what I was looking for! And the spreadsheet will be very helpful. Thanks! Good find.

No worries and good luck! Does this mean you will be brewing again soon? There are too many NADAs and NOPEs in your brew list.

Tell me about it! I'm actually out of homebrew. Stinkin holidays... I plan to brew on Tuesday. Just a good ol' amber. I might even try 10 gallons to get back my stock!
