Raspberry Cider
Hey GUys,
I am looking at making some Raspberry Cider from a recipe I found on homebrewhome from the link below. I was wondering if anyone can help me decipher the ingredients a bit..
On the website it says:
5 lbs. Cider (Sweet)
40 lbs. Cider (Sweet)
5 lbs. Cider (Sweet)
40 lbs. Cider (Sweet)
40 oz Red Raspberries
40 oz Red Raspberries
3 oz. Red Star Epernay Yeast Yeast (Ideal ferm. temp: 65-75°F)
3 oz. Red Star Epernay Yeast Yeast (Ideal ferm. temp: 65-75°F)
Directions:
(40 lbs = 5 gallons)
Toss all ingredients into a carboy at room temperature. Put on an airlock and go away. Rack after 2-3 weeks and go away again. After another 2-3 weeks bottle and go away for a few months!
Any idea why there are 2-3 of the same ingredients with the same amounts? am I supposed to use 80oz of Red Raspberries? If so, why don't they list it has 80oz of raspberries instead of two 40oz? Also, it has two 40lbs of cider(I'm assuming apple cider) and 2 5oz of cider.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Since all of the ingredients are given twice I believe it is safe to assume the receipe is:
5 lbs. Cider (Sweet)
40 lbs. Cider (Sweet)
40 oz Red Raspberries
3 oz. Red Star Epernay Yeast Yeast (Ideal ferm. temp: 65-75°F)
That is all fine and good but I am a bit confused by both 5 lbs of sweet cider AND 40 lbs of sweet cider.
I wonder if perhaps the 5 lbs. (~0.6 gallons) should be dry cider.
Alternatively the 40 lbs/5 gallons could be the dry cider and the 5 lbs/0.6 gallons coud be sweet.
Since the ingredients were listed twice making an additional error while typing the recipe in would certainly not be out of the question.
If I were making this recipe I would probably make one of those two substitutions.
I'm afraid I do not have a whole lot of experience with hard cider so I will leave to somebody else to delve into the relative merits of which of the options is best.
I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Scot
