Need Help on Primary Fermentation
OK, so I made a Diamond Knot IPA kit from Homebrew Heaven on Sunday. My brother bought it for me at Christmas and I just now finally got around to making it. I've had the kit in my garage, but it hasn't seen extreme conditions. The yeast (Nottingham dry) had an expiration date of 5/2009.
So, long story short...
Sunday I make the kit and pitch the yeast into my plastic pail primary
Monday morning I check it and it's bubbling at a rate of about 1 per second
Tuesday - bubbles are at a rate of 2-3 seconds per blub
Wednesday - decrease to 6-7 seconds per blub
I haven't made many batches so I consider myself a bit of a noob. Should I consider getting a new packet of yeast and putting it in the primary, or should I consider putting it in the secondary or should I just do nothing?
Thanks for any help or advice!

Sounds like its right on track!! It will slow after a couple days of good fermintation. The amounts sound normal. Nottingham is a great yeast too.
Good luck & keep us updated!!

+1! Everything sounds like its going swimmingly. Just keep your beer within the right temperature range, and the yeast will take care of the rest.

Re: Need Help on Primary Fermentation
Cool, thanks guys. Last time I made beer I used a different airlock (the S-bend one) and it was bubbling like crazy. I switched to a three piece airlock for this one.
I'll post another question on secondary fermentation in a while.

Re: Need Help on Primary Fermentation
All beers and wine for that matter ferment differently. My first batch was a porter which bubbled so vigorously that it came out of the airlock and made a huge mess. Later I made the mistake of adding another yeast packet to a batch of pale ale which I thought wasn't fermenting because the fermentation was so light. Anyway, like the guys said, your beer seems to be doing A-OK. It's going to be awesome once you start drinking it. Keep us posted
