Maple Beer

Postby spacone » Fri Dec 26, 2008 5:43 am

Hi,

I was less than enthusiastic when I opened a christmas present from my misses that was a Maple Beer kit from the homebrewery.com. I have no idea what this beer is supposed to taste like and no idea how to put my own spin on it. I usually purchase a liquid yeast and use it with the kits and change a thing or 2. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of liquid yeast to purchase? apparently its a lager but its described as using "unusual hops".

Any suggestions or any beer thats available to try on the market that would be compareable would be appreciated. TYIA

Maple beer? I have to say that I am intrigued. Sounds like a breakfast beer lol. It sounds like it is going to be a very sweet beer. But still, I am a strange guy and will try just about anything. I would brew it as is just to find out. You never know.

I am with H F on this one, brew it & maybe u found yourself a great new recipe. I use dry yeast on everything i brew now. I have used liquid & starters before & it always ends the same so the dry is cheaper & easier for me.
Whats the list of ingredients on that kit? Where does the maple flavor come from?
Let us know how it turns out!!

It says Light amber in color, smooth body, with just enough hop bite to complement the maple used to create its individuality.

1 pkg containing crystal malted grains
1 pkg containing a mixture of Light and amber dry malt extracts, malto-dextrin, granulated maple and granulated bittering hops
1 pkg containing irish moss
1 pkg containing finishing hop pellets
1 pkg lager yeast

I'm gonna go ahead and use the yeast it came with. Kit is from homebrewery.com

I'm surprised it's a Lager, but I guess Canadians are into Lager for temperature reasons?

OG was 1.055. I didn't taste it, I ran out of santizer and didn't want to stick an unsanitized spoon or laddle in the wort. Probably wouldn't hurt but you never know

I've been scouring the Internet for feedback on this particular kit, since I've been intrigued by it. So close to finding out how it turned out, yet the thread dies right before we get the final verdict! I know this thread is several years old, but does anyone have any experience with this particular recipe? How did it turn out? Any better maple recipes to recommend?
