Liquid Yeast and Yeast Starters
Hi, ive been brewing for close to a year just came across this message board. Im doing an Irish Stout from Brewers Best. My question is ive never used liquid yeast first time im doing it, I will be doing a yeast starter once fermentation has started when should I pitch the yeast from my Growler to my wort? do i shake it up before adding it? Next question I will be adding Irish moss for the last 15 mins of boil, should i hydrate moss over night in water? If so how much water? Last but not least I was planning on adding Raspberry flavoring to wort, should I rack to a secondary before adding flavor? if so how long should i wait before racking? Thanks
Nick

Re: New To Board, Brewing question
Hmmmm where to start
1 pitch your yeast once your wort cools to your normal pitch temp for dry yeast. Different people prefer different temps, but generally under 80 wont kill your yeast.
2 yes, a stir plate would work best, but shaking works. Sing shake senora while you do it. just make sure to relieve the pressure as you shake.
3 Just add it the way it is, no need to hydrate it.
4 If it's flavoring and not actual syrup or fruit then you can wait till bottling and add it till you like the flavor. If it's syrup or fruit then add it to the secondary and rack on top of it. Generally 3 weeks is a good time to wait till you rack.
