Infusion Efficiency?
Hey everybody!
I recently got my hands on Beersmith (a truly fantastic program, by the way), and have been tinkering with making my own recipes. In order to get my recipes as close as possible, I need to know the efficiency % that I can expect. I will be using a 5 gallon igloo cooler for my mash tun, and doing single infusion, all grain brews. I've never brewed beer before (not even an extract), and am unsure what I should expect for efficiency. Beersmith's default is 75%. Does that sound about right to you guys?
Thanks,
Dave

I assume you'll batch sparge, so 75% is a good baseline to start with.
Just be sure to measure your OG (opening gravity) with a hydrometer and your FG (final gravity).
the beersmith program will have a conversion factor to tell you your efficiency.
Remember sanitization, ad nausem ...........

Thanx for the info spkrtoy! I see where you enter the actual OG and FG in Beersmith to get the actual efficiency. This is a very very nice program. Im still in my 21 day trial phase, but I will definately be purchasing this program once the time runs out. I highly suggest this to anyone interested in brewing beer or mead. For 20 bucks, you get more information and downright HELP than you could imagine!
