Hot Break? Cold Break?
I haven't brewed for a little while, that's why I haven't posted. But anyway, can someone explain what a hot break and a cold break are in relation to brewing beer? My buddy tried to explain it yesterday but didn't do a great job and I figured that someone here might have the gift of teaching that he doesn't. Thanks a lot.

its just when it starts to boil the protiens form a "club" lets say, & they hang out together from there.(they become trub)
Cold break is the same but its formed when the wort is rapidly cooled.
When a counterflow or plate chiller is used you will get cold break.
Otherwise it cools to slow & the protiens get bored & dont form a "club".
Hope thats easy to understand. May be a little different but close to that at least.
You will always get hot break, but not always cold break.
It doesnt seem to matter much from my own experience.
