Home brew beer question.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I made a batch of Holiday ale (better brew kit). I am using a 7.5 primary fermenter, I made the batch lastnight. It started bubbling in the air lock around 11:30 am EST I checked the air lock again around 5:30 pm EST all was good.
HOWEVER......I checked it at 11:00pm EST and the batch was foaming out of the air lock!!!!!!! I took the lid off the bucket to ease the pressure, I looked inside and there was foam all the way up to the lid and the air lock was clogged with green muck, my guess it was hops.
Did I do something wrong??????????? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think "Blowoff Tube".
I've used my broken plastic racking cane elbow and hose to bleed blowoff into a bucket of water. If you didn't open the bucket, you could have had an explosion that would have blown the lid off and left a nice mess in the surrounding area.

sounds like you did good, sometimes the yeast, temps, and gravity are just right and they just take off. like wild said, rig up a blow_off tube to take care of the vigorous ferment that you can get, and it will save you a lot of cleanup.
a great day starts with a good brew

you got enough pressure inside to keep out all the bad stuff, so i wouldn't worry too much. when you get back to it, just clean up good and fix up some kind of air lock and you'll be ok.
