Hobbies besides brewing?

Postby brian » Fri Nov 23, 2007 7:32 pm

What do you guys do in your spare time besides brewing? Not that other hobbies are really necessary, I was just wondering. I play guitar and love biking, road biking that is. I probably would be into motorcycling but I think that I'd kill myself.

Lets see. I play guitar, bass and drums. I enjoy making homemade effects pedals for my guitar. And when time allows, i like to do some fishing.

i play nine holes of golf every day except Thursday (ladies day), go fishing once a month, and brew at least twice a month. like to cook, especially holidays, and work in my yard, when the weather is nice and sit out on the patio and listen to music (classic rock) and drink beer. i love being retired.

a great day starts with a good brew

I love reading, watching sports and have actually driven a NASCAR stock car in Las Vegas.
Health (back problems_) have sidelined brewing for this year but I hope to get back problems fixed next week so I may actually get to brew soon.

Hope you all had a nice thanksgiving!

I'm a geek. I love comics(collecting too), movies, Star Wars, Trek, video games, I'm big on my Wii. BUT mainly home brewing has taken up my spare time that I have.

Hobby? Weakness? Other? All?

Postby Pilsguy » Fri Dec 21, 2007 10:18 pm

Ooops! nolo contendere! You called 'em all, viz., hobbies, weaknesses, etc . I have too many interests --- master of none.
Usually consider myself a trumpet player, but oher opinions vary. Dabble in close-up magic (so howcum' you ain't doin' any?), won several short story writing contests but spent the Award Money at StarBucks. Been way long since I brewed a good "Midnight Porter". Before severe laziness set in, I had a nice chemical lab up in Dia. Springs with large autoclave, plenty of glassware, instrumentation --- elaborate filtration capabiity (even once stripped an otherwise good beer to a worthless <0.2 micron dumb stunt.)
THINK I want to get back to limited "zymology" (--- or is that collecting worthless gems?)
Time to guffaw now= I'm hoping tp locate a 5 - 7 1/2 Gal cylindroconical fermenter, clean, shiny, affordable (?), and some assorted parts and pieces --- after some review and discussion with some local pros and hearing the reasons why I am leaning to a bad idea.
I'm an old chemist from both perspectives. Need to attend some locale chit chat.

Hobbies other than Brewing

Postby bushwack1 » Fri Dec 28, 2007 5:14 am

Actually my other hobbies often interfear with my brewing. :(

Most of my other outlets are done with my Best Freind {my wife :D }( sorry Guys).

We Hike, with and without our 55 lb. Deaf Sharpe Boxer mix. During the winter we snowshoe, with and with out [Sherpa].

We Kayak (mostly with out the dog,) He can't decide which one of us he wants to ride with and keeps jumpingship.) Ever had a dog try to climb into you kayak while your paddling? Aviod it!!! Even when he jumps out can be a little tricky.

I've had my Motortcycle license for 27 years and 7 years ago my wife got hers and her first New bike :) . So we do alot of riding and we are not just "fair weather riders" we always pack the Rain Gear & some thing to pass the time if we need to pull over during a torent.
 By the way, any bikers out there let me tell ya , a great place to get off out of the rain and eat a packed or ToGo lunch during a heavy rain storm is in a Do it yourself Car Wash!! You wont be bothered by any one. Who the hell is going to wash thier car or truck during a thunder and lightning storm :!:
I fish for Lake Trout, Salmon or Bass while she reads Book.
I Ice fish for Lakes, Browns & Rainbows while she stays home and reads Another Book  , before bringing me out a Hot Lunch and the dog to pass the time.

I'm a chef, so somthings always cooking. We grow an almost organic vegetable garden and She grows flowers everywhere. Inside,,, outside,, Up this ,,Down thatAround these ,, Over those. But she has is great at it and has two Green Thumbs. I swear she'ld have them in the Hot Tub if the chloride wouldn't kill them
And somtime I just go on too looooooong, Sorry
Wear it out, Use it up, Or do without.

Postby vanwolfhausen » Wed Feb 20, 2008 1:28 pm

...Mixed martial arts as I used to train heavy weight fighters but, nowadays I just don't have time. If I am not working, I'm making beer, thinking about beer, looking for new beer equipment, dreaming about beer etc.hahaha
Thanks,

Biggest "hobby" is riding my motorcycle. 8) Also dabble playing the bass guitar, (mainly just with the radio  ) Most of the time I'm too darn busy to do much else! Wine/Beer time comes with the setting of the sun! 8)
