Great Lakes Brewing Company - Edmund Fitzgerald Porter
Lately I've been branching out a lot in my beer drinking habits. In the past, I've stuck with beers that I've known to be awesome and have not tried as many new beers based simply on the theory of "when you have a winner, stick with it". Pale ales have typically been my favorites, usually the hoppier the better.
However, last week I picked up a 6-pack of Edmund Fitzgerald Porter from the Great Lakes Brewing Company and was blown away by it.
It was creamy like a porter should be but I have often found that creamy beers lack the hoppiness that I really like. This porter seemed to have both. I could definitely taste the slight chocolate flavor as well, not too overpowering but all together excellent.
I didn't drink any of these out of the bottle but poured them into a glass so I could see the beer, smell it better, and generally enjoy it more, (I may write a different post about that specifically). All in all it was a great experience to branch off of pale ales (as good as they are) and really focus on the entire experience of drinking an amazing beer.
