I posted this question awhile back and never got a response, so i figured I'd give it another try here....

When making a label for a bottle of wine, the year you put on the label is when it was bottled or when it was started?

I had to ask my wife about this one since she is the wine drinker in the family. I purchase wine based upon the alcohol content and the cost per unit volume. Hmmm...I guess that's why she doesn't let me pick out the wine for her. ;-)

Technically the date is the season the grapes were harvested in (e.g. the summer of 2005 for a merlot).

I hope this helps.

Of course, seeing as how its your label, you can put whatever date you prefer. If it were me doing it, I would use the date that fermentation ended. I used to bulk age my wines in a carboy for several months before bottling, so the actual bottling date didnt reflect the "born on" date.
