fuel useage on this friggn thing?

Postby bigdaddy501501 » Fri Jun 25, 2010 1:36 am

Ok, I just got my new Banjo burner in today along with my new 62 qt.ss kettle.I really didn't know what to expect but damn! These are huge! I did a test run on 2 gal.of water in a smaller (3.5gal) kettle to burn the paint off. It boiled it in 10 min flat!

My question is how long will a bottle of fuel go in one of these?
I plan on boiling around 6.5-7 gallons for an hour this weekend.
Is one tank enough? THANKS

This may be too late, but I just did my first all grain batch yesterday. I was using a tank that was probably less than half full and had plenty of gas. I was burning for a total of at least 2.5 hours between heating my HLT water and a 90 minute boil. I am not using a banjo burner though. I have been told you should get a solid 3-4 brew days out of a full tank of propane. Good luck.
Primary: American Pale Ale
Secondary: Mead
Bottled: Berliner Weisse
On Tap: NADA (please forgive me)

Thanks Miguelito. Yeah I just didn't want to get halfway there and run out!It does burn some gas though, I'd say 1/3 tank maybe.
So how did your first all grain go? Other than using way to much water, forgeting to add the Irish moss, and leaving the valve open on my MLT while adding water to the grain, everything went great! 8)

I guess it would be a good idea to have a back up tank like I do in case you do run out.

All went well on the maiden voyage. Just had to deal with a slightly leaking mash tun and HLT at the valve - no biggie. I may have used a tad bit too much water too. The whole time I was thinking of how I could improve my process for the next batch - will try to brew again this weekend.

I felt a little like I did when I brewed my first ever extract batch - excited, scared, curious, etc. But I was very relaxed, enjoyed the whole process, and tried to take it all in. I'm chomping at the bit to do my next all grain.

Take care & good luck.
