The shelf life depends a lot on how it is made. Adding metabisulphate. Also adding tannin. How you cork your bottles. I have kept wine a couple of years with no problems.

last night my brother and i enjoyed a persimmon wine that had a date on the label of 2003, it was very good and not that much of a change from the time i made it. i keep my wine in a cool room built into my garage and there are many in there that are over 3 yrs. old and just waiting to be drank or used in my kitchen.

Yes, storage is very important also. I have 2 storage reefers that store my wine at 59 degrees F. I think even the small wine reefers that store a dozen or so bottles is a good investment.
