Flavoring or the Real Thing

Flavoring or the Real Thing

Postby rockthebock » Mon Oct 12, 2009 3:13 am

So, I got this idea for a vanilla almond stout and I was just wondering what everybody on here thought about the use of vanilla flavoring versus using actual vanilla beans. I've heard the argument both ways but I need some more opinions. Any help is good help

I have heard that quality extract is actually better than the whole bean because it extracts all the good stuff out of the bean into an alcohol solution. I've only used vanilla in beer once, and it was a whole bean. Tasted great!
