Coors-Miller Company!?!?!?
Have you guys seen the news. Coors and Miller are trying to merge some of their operations. Miller Brewing Co. and Molson Coors Brewing Co. are wanting to combine some of thier US operations. It will still be two separte beers but its a real company partnership (where most of the time when they say thier combing thier really buying one out ex. AOL) The FTC (Federal Trade Commision) has to pass the merge. This will put 80% of beer in America in two companies than just three. Anheuser-Busch is still king but maybe Miller-Coors will give them a bigger run for the money.
What does this do to us?
I like my bud. I have a much brawder(sp) taste for beer now but the simple cheap but good beer that we allways got in college is still a staple at least in my taste. Could this open the door even more for micro-breweries? Or will this just make the big beers cheaper, increase competition, or just water down the already lame tounge of most Americans?
Let me know what you guys think.

Man that's a good question. Prohibition had far reaching effects in the quality of beer that we have today with the closing of so many microbreweries. I honestly think that having two of the big three combine will still be ok for microbrews. I also agree with you that Budwieser, Coors, and Miller have their place in my repetuior (not sure of spelling) of beers. I'll even choose a silver bullet over a homebrew every so often. Some of that of course is the memories that that particular taste and smell evoke but some of it is also that it actually tastes good.

I don't believe it has any bearing on the Microbrew scene. BMC will now just be BM/C. The micros will continue to slowly chip away at the percentage as more people are enlightened to the finer tastes in beer. As for me, I stopped buying BMC in '90. The only time I have the opportunity to drink it is when it's given to me. One of the people I quad with is a Bud VP. He's always bringing me a sample saying, "Guess who we just acquired?"

I agree. Mirco will just slowly chip away. I think when micro becomes a big part of the american taste the big TWO will start going back to the roots of beer and pulling a Sam Adams. Which I think is fine as long as people still support mirco. Hey maybe the bigs will just bring more to the mircos side when ever that happens.
