cleaning kegs

Postby beernut » Wed Jan 14, 2009 4:19 am

So I have 3 kegs to clean. Do I need to tear them all the way down every time or can I just Oxyclean them, rinse and refill? Will tearing them down for a thourough cleaning every other time work?

I consider myself lazy but I've always stripped my kegs all the way down, cleaned, sanitized, lubed, and pressurized with CO2 until they're needed to be filled. I guess if you have a 10 gallon batch and only one keg you could fill it with the same beer.
On Tap - Oak Aged Bourbon Porter, Barleywine, and Irish Red Rye

Primary - Mead
Secondary - Chipotle Smoked Porter

The problem with the world is that everyone is a few drinks behind.

I just rinse them out good. Soak with oxyclean for a day. Rinse a few times & call it good. Sometimes i gotta scrub where the yeast was hangin out. I havent had any problems yet. brewery cleaner works well too.

Its working out quite nicely Jeepguy I wish I would have started kegging sooner. I just finished an IPA and it's my best yet. It's nice to be drinking my beer two weeks after I brew it (the force carbonation thing is great.) I'm living he happy life over here with my new keg system haha. Sorry we didn't get to do that all grain like we talked about in December. If you make a trip up here for grain let me know, you can crash here and we will hammer some brews. I still need to get that mill from you.. Take care .
