My brew Stand!

Postby curlyfat » Sat Jan 23, 2010 4:07 pm

I just built this brew stand with my buddy. Can't wait to inaugurate it this week!

Wow!
That is a thing of beauty! How did you make it? How long did it take? Did you get plans from somewhere or did you design it yourself?

You'll have to keep us posted on how it works when you inaugurate it.

We actually built it without plans, just sort of made it up as we went along. We spent a total of about 8 hours on it. Luckily my buddy has welding experience.. I don't!

The shocking part was how little went wrong.

I'll be using 3 15g brew pots with ball valves. The mash-tun has a false bottom and brewmometer as well. I'm hoping to increase efficiency with the ability to adjust mash temps (have been using a cooler), and the ability to fly-sparge.

Looks great curlyfat.
So you built that out of empty aluminum PBR cans?
How are you plumbing your propane?
Have you had the chance for a wet run?
How's it handling the full weight?
On Tap - Oak Aged Bourbon Porter, Barleywine, and Chipotle Smoked Porter

Primary - Mead

The problem with the world is that everyone is a few drinks behind.

My friend thought PBR cans would be ironic in the picture  . Haven't boiled any water yet (it's still out of town since I didn't have a vehicle capable of getting it home). We used heavy gauge 1" steel tubing. All shelves were tested with my full weight with no issues at all. I built a basic manifold for the propane out of plumbing parts. I intend to purchase an actual manifold at some point since I question the safety of mine.

Thanks to weather, I may not have it home to use until next week.. :x

Very nice brewstand Curlyfat! Well done!
I've been wanting to build a stand myself, but like you, I don't weld. Fortunately, I've joined my local homebrew club, and some of the clubmembers DO weld. So, maybe in a month or 3 (or 6. definitely a year?), I'll be able to post some of my own brewstand pics!
What's the BTU's of those burners? I'd be interested in knowing how long it takes to bring 15.5 gallons of water to a boil with them. I've seen the really awesome looking Jet burners, but it seems like a lot of people have problems with them.
Can we look forward to pics of this bad boy in action? I'd love to hear what you like/dislike about it once you brew on it.
Cheers,
Dave

Your new brewing set up looks awesome!

You might want to adjust the propane flow a bit to cut down on the build up of soot.
;-)

It makes a great picture though.

Congratulations on a beautiful looking brewing system!

Please let us know how it handles brewing an actual batch of beer.

You caught me! I adjusted the air mix for a better picture... Will definitely update when I actually use it.
