Bottling beer in plastic bottles?
Quick question on beer in plastic quart bottles. Is this good or bad to do? I have been doing it for some time and think i might be getting plastic taste in beer, but not sure. Has anyone else tried this and had a problem?

Re: Bottling beer in plastic bottles?
I've not heard of plastic bottles imparting any kind of a plastic flavor but their use in bottling beer is generally discouraged.
Normal plastic bottles are permeable to oxygen so prolonged storage in such bottles may lead to off-flavors associated with oxidation.
When bottling I sometimes fill a small PET bottle fitted with a Carbonator Cap. By squeezing the air out you can use this bottle as an indicator of the level of carbonation. Once the bottle retains its original shape they should be enough carbonation to sample a bottle soon. I usually sample the small PET bottle first to avoid oxidation problems. In such cases, I have not detected any flavors or aromas association with oxidation. However, a few times I have left the PET bottle for over a month and oxidation was readily apparent in those cases.
I hope this helps.
