Age of concentrate

Postby fpreston » Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:48 pm

I made several batches of wine some years ago and I recently found 2 46 ounce cans of Alexander's Concentrate for Pinot Chardonnay. The are at least 10 years old and cans were slightly bulging---stored on second floor of house in TX temp in summer around 80. Cans were still sealed, I opened and got a hiss but build up on walls of cans... can't tell if it is still good or not. Should I dump it or is it likely to be OK. Wine shows it contains sulfites if that helps.

Second question, how long can you keep wine yeast in unopened pouch in refrigerator?

Thanks for any advice.

Mmmmmm...Pinot Chardonnay, yum.I would say if it NEVER gets above 80* then something else is causing the build up.Really I think it would take 120*+ temps to cause swelling(just guessing).Ten years is a LONG time.Hell thats a long time to age a fermented chard.I'd buy new,but I've been wrong before.

I agree. I wouldn't try it after that many years and the can bulging
